CIL HEADQUARTERS
The Islamic Community of Lisbon (CIL) is one of the main representative institutions of Muslims in Portugal, playing a key role in promoting inter-religious dialogue, social integration and the preservation of Islamic cultural identity in the country. Founded in 1968, CIL has been a meeting point for Muslims of diverse origins, including communities from Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Arab world.
The great landmark of the organized Islamic presence in Portugal is the Central Mosque of Lisbon, inaugurated in 1985. Located in Praça de Espanha, this mosque is not only a place of prayer, but also a center of Islamic education and culture. With impressive architecture, inspired by the traditional Islamic style, the mosque has a large two-story prayer hall, a library, teaching rooms, a community center, a cafeteria that also houses a restaurant serving Indian and Pakistani cuisine, a sports hall that can be rented for playing futsal, basketball, handball, volleyball or badminton, and a grand hall for conferences, weddings and large events, offering a variety of activities for the community and the general public. In addition to these facilities, the Central Mosque of Lisbon also has a funeral room, where all the necessary facilities are available for funeral preparations.
CIL plays an active role in the social and community life of Lisbon, promoting cultural events, solidarity actions and inter-religious initiatives. In addition, the mosque frequently hosts guided tours, allowing people from different backgrounds to learn more about Islam and Muslim culture.
Over the years, the Islamic Community of Lisbon has worked to strengthen peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding between the different religious and cultural communities in Portugal, reinforcing the importance of respect and diversity in the context of Portuguese society.

Abu Hurayrah (Radiyallahu Anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: “Whoever relieves a believer from one of the hardships of this world, Allah will relieve him from one of his hardships on the Day of Judgement. Whoever eases the plight of a debtor in distress, Allah will ease him in this life and in the Hereafter. Whoever covers up the faults of a Muslim, Allah will cover up his faults in this world and in the Hereafter. And Allah is the help of the slave as long as he helps his brother.” (Muslim)
